At MPS we believe that ensuring the optimal conditions for a child’s participation in sport is one of the best investments we can make. The health and developmental benefits of physical activity for the child is self evident. The early exposure of our children to diverse physical activities is an essential part in the all-round education we provide at Milnerton Primary School. Milnerton Primary School has a strong tradition of sporting success with pupils competing across a wide range of sporting codes at local, district and provincial level. The major sports are rugby, cricket, hockey, netball, cross country, soft ball and swimming.
We are fortunate enough to have our own 25 meter swimming pool, with the result that there is a huge swimming culture at Milnerton Primary School. From grade 1, every class in the school practices swimming once a week during their Phys. Ed. lesson. Pupils who are selected to represent the Milnerton Primary School swimming squad practice twice a week as an extra mural and participate in at least 5 interschool Gala’s per year.
Fixtures in the major sporting codes take place throughout the week and participation in tournaments and tours at the weekends and school holidays.
